Some viewing and processing support #ONconf2016

Today (Saturday 17th) is the last day you can access the videos of the first international OneNote conference (#ONConf2016) for free. Now there are more than 20 talks in total, so there is a lot of material for you to enjoy! But then there is this thing with video: it can be frustrating if it goes not fast enough, or it is not covering the exact topic you like. On the TED site they solved this with an interactive transcript which is great. You click on text in the transcript, and the video jumps to that location and plays.

I’ve done something similar in OneNote for my talk. 🙂 I’ve published the script in a table in OneNote, where you have the combined information: slide, text and two important things:

The time stamp: so you can jump to the relevant section by dragging the pointer in the video
A “Notes” column, where you are invited to add comments, remarks, questions etc. I’ll pick it up from there.

So best way to view this, is to have the video on one side of your screen, and the notes on the other side.

Note: If you add notes, please also add your name there. Please also do not forget to sign the guestbook. So far I have people from Australia, Italy, USA, Ukraine, UK,… signing the list. Please make sure to add your line! 🙂

Today was a (yet another) great day for ihop.be

Today I was one of the speakers on the international OneNote conference, organized by Jared DeCamp. My topic was OneNote in business, and more in detail OneNote as part of a digital workplace where you use it in combination with Outlook, Microsoft Groups, SharePoint etc, and this both on a business strategy level and on a hands on level (how to create hyperlinks for instance).

This was not a “normal” conference where speakers and participants need to travel etc. This is a 100% online conference. And guess what: more than 4.000 people are attending this conference. Each pin on the map below is a person who attends the conference, and who took the time to pin his flag on the map. Isn’t that cool.

The conference is not over yet by the way, and you can still join. Just go to http://www.learnonconference.com and register all the way at the bottom. From there on you will receive emails with links to the videos that are prepared by the speakers. Each video is about 20 to 30 minutes. So that is similar to the TED conferences I love so much. Viewing the videos is free during the conference. When it’s over, you can get access, but then there will be a fee. In this it resembles the #DW24 conference which last run in 2015 I believe.

So cool to be part of such a powerful OneNote community.

Wil jij ook leren hoe je beter zal kunnen samenwerken dankzij Office 365?

Office365 is meer dan een “online” versie van de gekende Microsoft office producten, en we kunnen er ook veel meer mee doen dan we op het eerste gezicht zouden denken.

Maar wat is dat dan precies? Hoe kunnen we dankzij O365 beter samenwerken op één document, en hoe kunnen we dat in goede banen leiden? Hoe kunnen we binnen onze organisaties constructieve dialoog opbouwen dankzij de nieuwe functies?
En dan nog het boeiendste van allemaal: al die projecten: hoe kunnen we die optimaal laten verlopen door ze te ondersteunen met de juiste ICT. Kan dat ook in Office 365?

Michael Sampson heeft begin dit jaar hierover een boek geschreven. Deze boeiende Nieuw Zeelander is later deze maand in Nederland voor zijn keynote op een SharePoint congres, en ik heb van de gelegenheid gebruik gemaakt om samen met hem een workshop te organiseren in Brussel, over dit onderwerp. Report on online events during HR Xpo

During the last HR Xpo event in Brussels, ihop organized two online events with leading consultants in the domain of digital transformation. Herewith the report.

About HR Xpo, and adding a digital level to it

It was for my company the first time ever to be present on a trade show. We had a nice booth in the exhibition hall.
The tagline we used during the event was: “Are you ready to say goodbye to paper”, since the idea behind ihop is to assist companies in optimizing their digital workplace.

But of course, a key element in that digital workplace, is about meeting people online, and having meaningful interactions via tools such as Skype and Google Hangouts, so why not adding some digital in the mix?

That’s why we organized two online “digital events” during the trade fair. In this report I will cover the content of the events, but also all the tools that were used to make these events possible.

Aankondiging: OneNote training via Kluwer

Dit jaar heb ik al bijna 100 mensen geïntroduceerd in deze fantastische (gratis) tool: Microsoft OneNote. Ja, natuurlijk heb ik ooit nog MS Word gebruikt, en sinds mijn eerste iPad was ik een grote fan van Evernote. Maar dan kwam ik begin 2014 OneNote tegen… en nu doe ik alles onmiddellijk en uitsluitend in OneNote.

Natuurlijk nota nemen tijdens vergaderingen (online en live), maar ook mijn todo’s bijhouden, blogposts schrijven enz. Zelfs mijn offertes verwerk ik helemaal vanuit OneNote, want dat is ook een samenwerking met de (toekomstige) klant, en ik ken geen betere tool om samen te werken. Ken jij iets dat beter is? Laat het me weten, ik ben benieuwd. Voor mij heeft OneNote het mogelijk gemaakt dat ik niets meer op papier moet doen. Eindelijk 🙂

Wil jij graag starten met OneNote? Wil je dat vervelende papieren schriftje achterwege laten, want je kan er niets uit delen, niet in zoeken enz? Dan is deze opleiding zeker iets voor jou: op donderdag 15 september geef ik een introductie training over OneNote. Deze opleiding wordt georganiseerd door Wolters Kluwer en je leert er de vijf “key skills” : noteren, verzamelen, zoeken, delen en … sneltoetsen gebruiken… Na deze training ben je nog geen OneNote pro, maar heb je een uitstekende start om het efficiënt te gaan gebruiken.

Schrijf je nu in via de website van Kluwer. Noot: de opleiding kost 250 euro per persoon. Eventueel kan je gebruik maken van de KMO portefeuille.

HR Xpo minus one day: practical information about attending the expo

Tomorrow will be the first day of HR Xpo. For ihop a big day, since it is the very first time we will be at an event as exhibitors. Today, we will go the the event location to start setting up our booth (J) and test the ADSL line we’ve leased to support the two online events we will be hosting.

On a practical topic: how to get to the physical event HR Xpo and our booth:

Twee online events over digitale werkplek (tijdens HR Xpo)

Volgende week is het HR Xpo in Brussel, en ihop zal er staan met een stand over de digitale werkplek. Omdat we nu eenmaal geloven in de troeven van digitale samenwerking, voegen we ook een “digitale” laag toe aan het beursevent.
Dat doen we door twee internationale leiders in het domein van de digitale werkplek uit te nodigen. We voorzien namelijk online meetings die iedereen ofwel ter plaatse ofwel online kan volgen.

Eerste event is woensdag middag (20/4) om 13u met Lee Bryant, mede oprichter en director van het POST*SHIFT in Londen, een toonaangevend bedrijf rond digitalisering.
Het gesprek met Lee zal gaan over de strategische functie van een “employee social network” (ESN) in het hele verhaal van de digitale werkplek.
Registreren voor *gratis* deelname aan dit korte event (ter plaatse of online via Skype), doe je via het invulformulier onderaan deze blogpost.

Het tweede event is donderdag namiddag (21/4) om 17u. Dan komt Oscar Berg langs op de stand van ihop (dat is stand J trouwens) en zullen we online praten (via Google Hangout) specifiek over de rol van HR in het opzetten van die digitale transformatie. HR heeft hier een belangrijke rol te spelen. Maar hoe pak je die nieuwe rol aan? Waar moet je op letten?
Noot: Oscar is keynote spreker over social collaboration, en heeft er ook een heel goed boek over geschreven: “Collaboration in a Social Era”.

Als je inschrijft voor één van deze events, wordt dan ook uitgenodigd voor een open OneNote document waarin extra informatie zal staan. Daar gaan we met z’n allen in kunnen werken (dus inclusief de gasten!).

Site visit at HR Xpo by Oscar Berg

In a blogpost earlier this week I announced that an international guest will join us next week at the breakout session during HR Xpo. I’ve updated that post with the name of the speaker.

In addition to the breakout event (where I have a meeting room at HR Xpo, and an online call via Skype), there will be a second event, now on Thursday at 5 PM at the ihop booth. It is nobody less than Oscar Berg, the Swedish author of the book “Collaborating in a Social Era” who will pay us a visit, this time using Google Hangouts as a platform.

We will talk about the role of HR in this move to the digital workplace. There is a critical role for HR, but how should they play it? What are the steps to take?

Digital breakout session at HR Xpo with Lee Bryant

At the first day of the HR Xpo event in Brussels next week, ihop organizes a digital breakout on the topic of the digital workplace. All exhibitors at the fair get a timeslot to present themselves to the audience at the fair. ihop will use this timeslot to invite an international speaker and talk about how to optimize the digital workplace.

It is Lee Bryant, co-founder and director of POST*SHIFT, a company with an excellent track record when it comes to digitization, who will join us next Wednesday.

He is a very inspiring thinker in the domain of digital workplace, and helps companies to use the power of digital collaboration. Our talk will be about the strategic role of employee social networks (ESN). I look forward to this talk, do join us!

This event will be on Wednesday April 20th at 13:00 PM (CET) in Alfons Gossetlaan 11, 1702 Groot-Bijgaarden (Belgium). If you can not be there live, you can join the Skype meeting. Opleiding “Start to OneNote” via Wolters Kluwer

In de volgende maanden zal ik twee keer de opleiding “Start to OneNote” geven via Wolters Kluwer. Dat doe ik met veel plezier, want ik ben een héél enthousiast gebruiker van dit programma, en deze tool past perfect in een digitale werkplek.

Op donderdag 28 april gaat de eerste sessie door, als open classroom training in de gebouwen van Kluwer in Mechelen. Je hoeft geen echte voorkennis te hebben: we starten met een inleiding: wat is OneNote, waarom past het binnen de digitale werkplek en waarom is het zo een sterke tool. Daarna gaan we één voor één de belangrijkste acties uitleggen en demonstreren. Het laatste deel van de opleiding is een algemeen oefen moment: er zullen oefeningen op de verschillende acties klaar staan, die iedereen op zijn tempo kan afwerken.

Deze OneNote opleiding duurt 2 uur, en wordt aangeboden aan 250 €. Daarna kan je zelf helemaal aan de slag met het programma.
